LEADERSHIP

JOHN VAN RYN, P.E., P.L.S.
- President

Our president has been in the industry for over a decade, and his experience encompasses the full spectrum of land development. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in engineering with a focus in water resources. Before graduating he worked as a laborer for a large construction company and after graduating he practiced both civil engineering & land surveying for various private engineering firms. His experience allowed him to become dual licensed as a Registered Professional Engineer (P.E. No. 80667) and Professional Land Surveyor (P.L.S No. 9342).

With both engineering and surveying experience, John brings a practical perspective to achieving client goals by keeping in mind the various challenges that naturally occur from project inception to construction. Furthermore, John has a great deal of experience with today’s stormwater regulations which helps clients identify critical design elements early to minimize site impacts while maintaining stormwater compliance. He takes immense pride in his work and values building strong relationships with his project team and clients.

 

OMAR FABIAN, E.I.T, LEED Green Associate
- Project Manager

Omar is a civil engineer with more than 10 years of experience in land development throughout San Diego County. His diverse background includes managing projects ranging from custom single-family development to large residential subdivisions and multi-family projects. Omar earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Utah.

Prior to transitioning into land development, Omar served as a Water Rights Adjudicator for the Utah Department of Natural Resources, where he developed a strong foundation in water resources and regulatory compliance. Omar specializes in stormwater management and has extensive experience designing innovative, site-specific solutions that balance municipal requirements with each project’s unique condition. His technical expertise, combined with a collaborative leadership style, enables him to effectively guide multidisciplinary teams through the complexities of the land development and the permitting process.

 

NICK IBANEZ
- Field Survey Manager

Nick Ibanez is a Land Surveying professional with over a decade of experience across the full project lifecycle, including ALTA, topographic, boundary, and construction staking surveys. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Geography from San Diego State University and is an FAA Certified Part 107 Remote Drone Pilot.

 

He leads field survey crews and coordinates with clients and subcontractors to ensure all projects remain on an efficient and timely schedule. Using his experience and unmatched
attention to detail, Nick oversees quality control for all survey calculations, maps, and exhibits to deliver superior results. He is dedicated to mentoring staff and implementing modern surveying technology to continuously improve departmental operations.

 

 

 

LINDSAY CHICCONE, PLA
- Principal Landscape Architect

Lindsay is a licensed Landscape Architect in the state of California, Nevada, and Kansas with over a decade of design experience. She graduated from California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo with a degree in Landscape Architecture. She practiced with multi-disciplinary design and engineering firms and in the landscape construction industry prior to founding Chiccone Landscape Architecture. Throughout her career, Lindsay has worked on projects spanning both private and public works.

Lindsay works alongside the Van Ryn team from concept through construction, integrating planting, irrigation, and site design in coordination with grading and stormwater plans. Her work emphasizes water-efficient planting and MWELO compliance, fire-hazard zone and defensible space requirements, and planting design that supports stormwater BMPs.  She enjoys making lasting relationships with her clients and seeing their project visions come to life.
